A Nation Under God's Judgment

Though America was originally founded upon biblical principles, our nation has turned its back on the God who has blessed us so abundantly. I am convinced that, if we do not repent, God will judge this nation.

There are several reasons why I believe that America is under God's judgment. First, we live in a country which kills many of its own unborn children before they see the light of day. In fact, it is now legal in America to kill babies who are partially born. A doctor can legally pull a baby's body, except for the head, outside of the mother's womb, puncture the baby's skull, and insert a suction device to suck out the baby's brains. The Bible declares that the Lord hates "hands that shed innocent blood" (Proverbs 6:16-17).

Second, sexual immorality is becoming more and more widespread in this country. God gave mankind the gift of sex to be enjoyed between a husband and his wife (Matthew 19:3-6). Today, premarital sex, adultery, sexual promiscuity, and homosexuality are not only widely practiced, but are often promoted through the media. God will not allow these practices to go unpunished (Leviticus 18:19-25). Just as He punished Sodom and Gomorrah for sexual immorality, so too God will judge America if we do not repent (Genesis 19:1-26).

Third, America is becoming more and more violent. This is the logical outcome of a society that teaches its youth that there is no such thing as right and wrong (moral relativism). God will not tolerate violent crimes such as murder and rape (Genesis 6:11-13).

Fourth, American foreign policy appears to be turning against the nation of Israel (God's chosen nation) and siding with her enemies. God promised Abraham that He would bless those who bless his descendants (the nation of Israel) and curse those who curse his descendants (Genesis 12:1-3). History has proven this true time and time again. Nations or empires that have come against Israel have been devastated. If America chooses to oppose Israel, the fate of our nation will be no different from that of Babylon, Rome, the Philistines, Nazi Germany, and the Soviet Union (some of Israel's past opponents).

In short, America is not beyond God's judgment. We have forsaken the God of the Bible, and, if we do not repent, judgment will come. The warning proclaimed by Isaiah the prophet applies to America today: "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil" (Isaiah 5:20). Our only hope is for Americans throughout this land to confess their sins and call out to the Lord Jesus for forgiveness (2 Chronicles 7:14). We must pray for our nation, forsake our wicked ways, and turn to Jesus for salvation.
